Mold Removal: Its Effects and Advantages

Molds cause human beings to suffer numerous bouts of illness especially on young children and infants. Most of these sicknesses are allergies, inflammation and infection of the respiratory and digestive systems. This includes but is not exclusive to mild to severe headaches; skin hives and rashes, irritated eyes, difficulty in breathing and weakened immune system.

To ensure the health safety of a household, mold removal procedures include permanently and efficiently removing the source of molds. You can do mold removal work yourself but be sure that you wear proper protective clothing and paraphernalia. However, if you are financially well-off you could hire some mold removal experts and professional to do the work for you.

But in most cases, any practical homeowner could do the mold removal procedure as effectively as any professional by following step-by-step procedure and purchasing mold removal chemicals or cleaning agents at a local grocery or department store.

Since the main source of mold and mildew presence and growth is high humidity, removing the sources of the moisture must be the first priority. The more likely culprits to the presence of wetness and high humidity within the house are recent floods, roof leaks, a dripping air-conditioner, cracks on ceilings and walls, a busted water pipe or a sewage backup. After having identified the source of the problem, fix it by removing excess water and changing or plugging the damaged pipes or cracks.

Before proceeding to clean the molds out, don on proper working gear such as a long sleeved work shirt, goggles, hand gloves, and a facial mask preferably with respirator. Gather all your needed cleaning equipment in a nearby place to avoid running back and forth to get another device needed. Start brushing the areas affected by molds with soapy water. Afterwards, rinse the place thoroughly with clean water. If it is a moveable item that has been affected by mold growth like a table or a kitchen drawer, bring it outside the house where you can wash, clean and rinse it. After the cleaning process is done, next comes disinfecting by spraying the affected area or item with a disinfecting agent or solution. After this step, have everything dry out, if possible under the sun. Now if the walls, ceilings and other immovable items were the ones infected by mold then open windows, turn on dehumidifiers, fans and the air conditioner to start air flow and remove the moist humidity from the inside, replacing it with warm dry air. Be sure that all affected items are thoroughly dry before putting them back in the original and proper places. If some items could not be salvaged due to the intense degree of stain or damage cause by the molds, better throw it out because it might just be a source of another round of infection from molds. One treatment might not suffice to effectively remove the presence of the molds, hence patience and diligence is required. The process of mold removal and disinfection could be repeated again after three days. Check the perimeter well to make sure that out of sight molds are also taken care of.

Although mold removal is a lengthy and very exhausting procedure, the effort is worth it because the health and wellness of the family members residing within the house are at risk and very important.
